
At the February Board of Directors meeting, Crystal Sosa and Monae Bessant were installed as the newest board members for the Academy of Hope. Five candidates were eligible to run for two seats on the board. The election was conducted, certified, and verified by the Public Charter School Alliance of South Carolina.
Sosa is the Owner of Sosa’s Rentals and has three students at the charter school. She is earning an Associate in Early Childhood Education at HGTC. Bessant is an Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant and earned her Master’s in Social Work from Florida A&M.
Sosa stated that she wanted to serve on the board “because I care about my children’s education, the school’s direction, and for being an advocate for my children. I believe that strong schools are built through collaboration between parents and educators, and the community. I want to serve on the board to represent all families of AOH. I believe strong schools are built through the collaboration of the board, the staff, and the parents and children.”
Bessant expressed that serving on the board of the charter school “will allow me the opportunity to help build and grow this charter school in a way that will benefit the students, parents/caregivers and the community. I will be able to be a part of a team of board members whose main goal is to see this school succeed in a way that will benefit everyone involved. I want to serve of this board so I can be an extra voice that’ll promote and work hard for the betterment of the school’s community. I want to serve and to be that extra voice for The Academy of Hope.’
We are excited to have both of these wonderful individual on the board of directors and look forward to working with them to uplift and empower the school.
